About Marshfield Girls' Lacrosse ClubWelcome to the new website for the Marshfield Girls Lacrosse Club (MGLC)! This will be a vibrant meeting place on the web for our teams, our parents, friends, fans and coaching staff. History of the Club and Our CoachesThe Marshfield Girls Lacrosse Club was founded in 2001 by Dan and Sue Collins. Susan is the current Marshfield High Women’s Lacrosse head coach. Dan was one of the original three founders of the high school boys club in 1992 and on through its adoption as a varsity sport in 1995 and created the Marshfield boys youth (MYLC) program dating back to its inception in early 1993. Dan also helped found the MBYLL, which has grown to one of the largest youth lacrosse organizations in the country. Dan was a defenseman at Widener College (PA) in the mid seventies and played club lacrosse with the New York Lacrosse Club in the early 80’s. He has been coaching at the youth and high school levels since 1993. This is his fifth year coaching girls lacrosse. Sue has been deeply involved with the girls program from its inception and originally started a precursor to the MGLC back in 1998. She was the JV girls coach before assuming the head coaching job in 2000. Women’s lacrosse is the fastest growing sport at the NCAA level and continues to grow leaps and bounds in eastern Massachusetts and all of New England. We were joined three years ago by Hugh Hahn, who is at the helm of our U-13 team now. We also expanded in 2006 to include a new U-11 team and Sue has taken over those reins with the help of several parent coaches. Dan continues in his role as the U-15 coach. This year we joined a new league that encompasses many of the south shore towns; the aptly named, South Shore Lacrosse League. We are joined this year by a number of volunteer coaches drawn from our parent ranks and we’d like to thank them for their hard work and great attitude in working with the teams. This year they include returning "old hand" coaches, Pam Kelliher(U-13), and Tom Carroll (U-15) as well as newcomers, Pam Galler and Doug Colton (U11) and Jim and Sandy Walter (U-15) Our student coaches this year include Shayla Entwistle (U13), Meghan Collins and Rebecca Donnelly (U15). These latter three are all graduates of the MGLC, now playing at MHS. Objectives and Goals of the ClubOur objectives are threefold for the MGLC:
At the start of the 2006 campaign, we have nearly 100 girls involved at all levels, we have some HS players that played in this program now student coaching as well. More than 65% of the players at the HS level have played youth lacrosse. We hope someday to see this number above 90 per cent with the help of your daughters! Maybe they will love it as we do and give back to the game when they are finished playing. A little something to remember when you are watching your daughters, sisters, nieces or granddaughters play the game, that "Baggataway" is an Iroquois word for the native game of lacrosse. Appropriately, it means "Gift of the Gods". Sincerely, Sue, Hugh and Dan, |
